About Azadegan League
The Azadegan League, also referred to as League 1, is the second division championship in Iran. Founded in 1991, the competition had been the country’s top-flight tournament until 2001 when it was usurped as the first division by the Persian Gulf Pro League. This league boasts a promotion/relegation system, meaning it offers tickets to the top flight for the best formers while the worst performers drop down to League 2.
