The Hrvatski Nogogmetni Cup, known as the Croatian Football Cup in English, is the country’s annual cup tournament. Founded in 1992, the competition is run by the Croatian Football Federation (HNS) and offers a spot in the UEFA Europa Conference League to the champions — unless one team wins both the Croatian Football Cup and the top-flight league, at which point the UEFA Europa Conference League ticket passes on to the best-placed team in the league that has not qualified for Europe.
The season typically kicks off in August and wraps up in May of the following year. A total of 48 teams participate, 16 of which are the best-ranked teams according to club coefficients. The knockout stage is preceded by a preliminary, first, and second round. Up until the 2014-15 season, the quarterfinal stage and onwards were played over two legs.
