About Ziggo Sport Extra

Ziggo Sport Extra is a Dutch pay-television channel owned by VodafoneZiggo (a joint venture between Vodafone and Liberty Global) and operated by Ziggo. It was launched on November 12, 2015, as part of the package known as Ziggo Sport Totaal, which has included other sports-specific and general sports channels over the years.

Ziggo Sport Extra is an overflow channel to the rest of the sports-specific channels owned by the network. It has been made available to all Ziggo Sport Totaal subscribers when one or more events are taking place at the same time. Additional coverage on this channel has also included documentaries, sports-related films, sports news shows, and more.

Since Ziggo Sport Extra is not a regular channel, the sports set to be covered may vary. The channel has provided additional coverage for disciplines such as football, tennis, motorsports events, tennis tournaments, basketball games, and golf competitions.

Speaking about football, Ziggo Sport Extra has provided overflow coverage for tournaments such as the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, the UEFA Women’s Champions League, and the UEFA Youth League, and domestic tournaments such as the English Premier League, the Italian Serie A, the Spanish Primera División, the Belgian Pro League, the Greek Super League, among other competitions.

The channel has been available since its launch in High Definition, although a downscaled version of this feed is available to those users who have not switched to HD technology.

Ziggo Sport Extra Broadcast Rights

UEFA Champions LeagueZiggo Sport has acquired UEFA Champions League rights in the Netherlands, and will air live matches on its TV channels and online streaming service until 2021. Broadcasts will include both full matches and summaries, as well as the UEFA Super Cup. Multicast coverage may also be provided to let subscribers stay updated on goals and other events from various games being played at the same time.
World Cup QualifyingZiggo Sports owns the broadcasting rights in the Netherlands for the European qualifying matches for the 2020 UEFA Euro Cup and the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The agreement goes until 2022 and also includes coverage of the Netherland's Men's National Team in the UEFA Nations League. Matches will be aired on Ziggo Sport and Ziggo Sport Totaal.

Premier LeagueZiggo Sport has acquired exclusive multi-platform English Premier League rights in the Netherlands. The Dutch pay-TV broadcaster will telecast live matches and air match highlights to its subscribers, as well as provide Premier League streams on its OTT platforms for computers and mobile devices.

Spain - La Liga (2018-2021)
Pay-TV broadcaster Ziggo Sport has reached an agreement with La Liga to broadcast at least 6 matches per round of Spain's first division live on its platform. La Liga games telecast live on the platform will be available to stream live on the broadcaster's digital service Ziggo Sport Total for computers, tablets and smartphones.
Serie A
Italy - Serie A (2018-2021)
Ziggo Sport has acquired Italian Serie A rights in the Netherlands through to 2021. The Dutch pay-TV broadcaster will air select matches on its platform, which consists of premium TV sports channels and its OTT service Ziggo Sport Totaal. The latter, which in fact acts as a TV Everywhere service, will stream Serie A matches live to Dutch subscribers and may also provide video highlights on demand.

England - FA Cup (2018-2021)
Ziggo Sport has acquired the broadcast rights in the Netherlands for the English FA Cup for three seasons: 2018-19 to 2020-21.

Segunda DivisionZiggo Sport has secured multi-platform rights to the Spanish Segunda Division in the Netherlands for the 2021/24 period. The network will air at least one live match per week, as well as the playoffs, and weekly highlights.
