TVR History, Coverage, Features
TVR is a local French television channel, owned and operated by Rennes City Media. It was the first local television network created in France, and it was inaugurated by the president on March 21, 1987. It was briefly renamed as TV Rennes 35 from 2007 to 2011, but it was later rebranded as TVR. The channel owned the record for the most watched local channel in 2014, with over 50,000 users watching the channel daily, as per reports by the channel. The channel was originally available only in the city of Rennes, but it has later reached other French locations over the years.
Like most local television stations, TVR produces content of interest for the region it was created in. In this case, TVR has aired programs centered on general information, social sciences (economics, social studies, political shows), culture, sports, and citizenship. There have been reruns of some of the shows after their initial broadcast, while others have been uploaded to the channel’s website to be watched on-demand.
Speaking about sports, TVR has focused on airing live shows at major sports events in the region. Such events have included the Rennes Tennis Open, the Bretagne Football Regional Cup, Rennes Avenir basketball matches, or the Route du Rhum, among others.
TVR started airing its content in SD, but the channel had an upgrade in 2014, when it launched its HD feed.
