About Celtic FC
Celtic Football Club, commonly known as Celtic, is a professional football club based in Glasgow, Scotland. Established in 1887, the team plays their home matches at Celtic Park, one of the United Kingdom’s largest stadiums thanks to its 60,832 capacity. Additionally, the Scottish giants have become synonymous with their iconic green and white hooped kit which was introduced in 1903.
Celtic, nicknamed the Bhoys, was initially founded to help address poverty among the immigrant Irish community in Glasgow. The Scottish club has since gone on to become one of the most dominant teams in the beautiful game, winning their 100th major title in 2016 after beating rivals Aberdeen in the League Cup final.
The club has enjoyed periods of domination since its inception, lifting six consecutive league titles from 1904 to 1910. The 1960s and 1970 brought another historic spell for Celtic, with the Bhoys winning the league for nine consecutive seasons while becoming the first Scottish team to lift the UEFA Champions League title in 1967, known then as the European Cup.
The intense rivalry with Rangers in the "Old Firm" derby is a highlight of the Scottish football calendar, igniting fierce competition and deep-rooted emotions among fans. Interestingly, Rangers was the team Celtic faced in their first match back in May 1988, with the Bhoys triumphing 5-2. Celtic’s rival is also based in Glasgow, thus adding another dimension to the Old Firm Derby.
