The winter transfer window is approaching its end, but that does not mean that we will not have any big moves until deadline day. One of those transfers could involve none other than Luis Suárez, who's time at Atlético Madrid could come to an end abruptly if things continue their current course.
The Uruguayan striker has been noticeably uncomfortable during his second season with Los Colchoneros, which has prompted questions about his future. The player's deal with the current La Liga champions expires by the end of the seaosn, and even if there have been talks to extend his term with the club, the possibility of watching him leave is there. If Atlético want to cash in on his transfer, then they will have to let him leave ini the next few days, and an unexpected suitor has emerged as a good chance for both club and player.
According to journalist Gerard Romero, a close friend of Suárez, the player has been tempted to join a Premier League side to continue playing in Europe before he eventually joins a Major League side. The team in question is none other than Aston Villa, which is coached right now by Suárez's friend, Steven Gerrard. The former midfielder has already brought Philippe Coutinho in during the current transfer window, and Suárez's addition would be a major boost for the Villains in their quest to avoid relegation and aim higher in the EPL season.
Romero's report on Twitch revealed that Suárez has already turned down offers to join two Brazilian Serie A teams and one more from a Saudi Arabian side yet to be named. Romero's report states that Suárez did not snub Gerrard's offer initially, which is a clear indication of how things could develop in the near future.
Steven Gerrard and Suárez have never hidden their friendship since their Liverpool days, and Suárez's potential move to Aston Villa could give him a chance to play one more time in one of the best leagues in the world before he considers to join an MLS team, one more of his options at this point.
Suárez's season at Atlético has not been that disappointing, but his physical problems and the wide variety of options at Diego Simeone's disposal have seen him fall down the coach's pecking order. Having his former teammate around could end his complicated days at the Spanish capital, while also offering him a way out of European football before accepting an alleged bid by David Beckham to team up with another of his friends, Lionel Messi, in the Englishman's MLS club.
