PSG's shock loss arguably was the biggest talking point of matchday nine, while reigning champs Lille made it three wins on the trot to keep working their way back up the table.

It was bound to happen at some point.

Namely, PSG eventually losing a match. Although Les Parisiens had strung together an eight game winning streak in Ligue 1, the capital giants haven't been infallible, as we saw from their surprise one-all draw with Belgian minnows Club Brugge.

Here's all you need to know following this weekend's Ligue 1 action.

PSG finally slip up: On Sunday, fresh off a resounding 2-0 win over Manchester City, PSG travelled to face Rennes in a game that many figured should be straightforward enough. However, that's the really beautiful thing about the sport nicknamed the beautiful game - its unpredictable nature. What made their 2-0 loss to Rennes even more shocking is that fact that it's the first time, since losing 1-0 to Lille in the French Super Cup, that Mauricio Pochettino's men have failed to find the back of the net. Now, the defeat doesn't put PSG's top spot in danger - they still have a six point lead - but it's safe to say that Les Parisiens will be looking to get back to winning ways as quickly as possible.

Lille finally turning a corner? It's been a tough season for Lille, who are the reigning champs after winning their first Ligue 1 title in over a decade. However, things haven't gone so swimmingly for Les Dogues this time around. Yet, after losing two in a row, Lille now have bounced back, winning three on the spin to help them inch up the table into eighth spot. Of course, they'll be looking to continue onwards and upwards following their confidence boosting victory over Olympique Marseille recently.

Lens continue to impress: So far, they've lost just once all season, and as a result, sit in second spot, just six points behind French heavyweights PSG. It'll surely be interesting to see if Haise's squad can keep this up all season - if they can, they'll certainly become the latest surprise packages in doing so.

Top Ligue 1 matches: October 15 - October 17, 2021

Ligue 1 fans will have to wait a bit longer to see their favorite players and teams in action due to yet another international break coming up. However, once that's all over, the show will be back on the road, and here are some games you won't want to miss:

PSG vs Angers: After failing to have even a single shot on target - despite Neymar, Lionel Messi, and Kylian Mbappe all starting - PSG will look to rebound as they take on Angers in their first game after the international break. Angers, for their part, have had their troubles, but will head into the international hiatus sitting in fourth spot, with just one loss in their last five matches.

Montpellier vs Lens: This could be a very interesting one. For starters, Lens are having an outstanding season and sit in second spot, just six points behind PSG. Montpellier, meanwhile, have impressed in attack, but their leaky defense has let them down time and time again; in fact, they've scored as many goals (16) as they've conceded (16) so far.

Clermont vs Lille: The Ligue 1 debutants started off well, but have now fallen off the pace, meaning that this will be a great opportunity for a recently resurgent Lille to potentially pick up some points.
