Two of women's football's biggest sides will lock horns at the 2020 Olympics in what should be an entertaining match featuring the USWNT and Sweden.

Preview: Sweden vs the USWNT

Sweden and the USWNT, two of women's footballing powerhouses, will go head to head in a much anticipated clash on Wednesday. The Stars and Stripes will definitely be out for revenge after the Blågult shocked them during 2016 Olympic Games quarter-finals by beating them 4-3 on penalties after a one-all draw. Sweden would then go on to face Germany in the final, where they'd lose 2-1, but nonetheless walked away with a runners-up medal, while the USA, for the first time since the Olympic women's soccer tournament started, failed to win even a bronze medal.

This will be the 42nd meeting between Sweden and the USWNT, the ninth instance at a major tournament, and the third occurrence at an Olympic Games. Notably, this is also the second clash in just three months between these two familiar foes. Back in April, the two cancelled each other out, which meant that a 16-game winning streak earned by Vlatko Andonvoski's squad came to an unfortunate end. It just so happens that Andonvoski's first game in charge was against - you guessed it, Sweden - during which his team won 3-2, and naturally, the Stars and Stripes will be looking to end Sweden's unbeaten streak which dates back to October 2020.

Since the start of 2021, the USA have conceded just one goal. The team who managed this? None other than Sweden. It's also the only game they've failed to win since the start of this year, while racking up 11 wins during that period.

With both Australia and New Zealand the other teams making up Group C, the onus will be on these two teams to get things right in their group stage opener. Will the USA be able to exact revenge on Sweden for ending their Olympic dreams five years ago? Or will the Scandinavian side again prove to be a stumbling block for the reigning World Cup champions?
