The extraordinary Luis Suarez scores four goals as Uruguay slaughter Chile in Montevideo.
Uruguay hammered Chile 4-0 in the third round of the South American World Cup qualifiers on Friday, with four goals from an absolutely spectacular Luis Suarez. Uruguay proved far superior to their opponents and could have won the match by an even greater difference.

Uruguay, who lifted the Copa America for the fifteenth time in July, once again demonstrated why they are currently amongst the best teams of the world. Even without the injured Diego Forlan, Uruguay produced electric attacking soccer, and not once allowed Chile to get into the game.

As was expected, the match commenced with an intense pace as both teams went looking for an early goal. Uruguay looked particularly dangerous each time they moved forward with Suarez and Edinson Cavani being their main danger men.

It was the Uruguayans who began to dominate as the minutes went by and they almost went ahead when a Luis Suarez free-kick struck the crossbar. Suarez created havoc for the Chile defense time and time again and it seemed just a matter of time before he would open his personal account at the Centenario stadium of Montevideo.

Finally, after several close calls, Uruguay went ahead in the 41st minute when Suarez fired the ball past Claudio Bravo from the edge of the area. Five minutes later Suarez was at it again, adding Uruguay's second goal with a powerful header after a series of bizarre rebounds in the Chile area.

In the second half, Uruguay continued to dominate proceedings, displaying enticing attacking soccer that has become trademark of their game in recent years. Chile had no answer to Uruguay's incredible free-flowing soccer and complete domination.

Uruguay's third goal arrived after an exceptional collective move initiated by Bologna midfielder Diego Perez, which culminated with an unstoppable header from Suarez, in the 67th minute.

To the joy of the home fans, the amazing Suarez appeared six minutes later to add the fourth. Suarez beat Bravo with a precise crossed shot from outside of the area to seal Uruguay an emphatic victory. When Suarez exited the field in the 76th minute he received a standing ovation from the 50,000 Centenario crowd.

Suarez put on an incredible performance, not only for his four goals, but because he was a constant menace for the Chilean defense each time he got the ball. His display will definitely boost his chances of becoming the first Uruguayan to be named FIFA World Player of the Year.

Uruguay remain undefeated after three rounds of the Brazil 2014 World Cup qualifiers, with two wins and a draw. They lead the South American group with seven points from a possible nine.
