Preview: Juventus vs Sassuolo

Simply put, Juventus will be looking to rapidly make up ground on the teams ahead of them in the table as the Bianconeri are aiming to make it a tenth straight Scudetto. However, things have not been as smooth sailing for the Turin giants as they have been used to in past seasons, and despite becoming the first team to defeat AC Milan this season, they still have quite a ways to go to catch up to the Rossoneri and Inter, who are seven and six points clear respectively. Meanwhile, Roma, who also have been having a very strong campaign, sit in third spot, three points ahead, and Juventus will next have to face Inter in a match that ultimately could prove decisive in a very closely contested Scudetto race.

However, before already looking forward to trying to take down the Nerazzurri in a much-anticipated Derby d'Italia clash next weekend, Andrea Pirlo's men will have to deal with Sassuolo. The Neroverdi have surprised many observers this season as they have continued to keep pace with some of the bigger sides, and as things stand, they would actually qualify for the Champions League if the season were to end today.

Still, Sassuolo have indeed been punching well above their weight, and as the season approaches its midway point, many do feel that it's going to be harder for the plucky side to really keep pace with the likes of Inter, Roma, Milan, and Juventus. Although they come into this match having beaten Genoa 2-1, it was hardly a convincing win, and that was on the heels of a humiliating 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Atalanta. In fact, Sassuolo have alternated between a loss and a win from their last five matches, losing to both Milan and La Dea, but beating both Genoa and their cross-town rivals Genoa, and will again be hoping to cause problems for Juventus.

Although they've won just one of their 14 Serie A meetings against the Bianconeri, Sassuolo have managed to draw Juve in their last two ties, and more important, actually are just one point behind the Turin giants in the table. However, they will have to try to overcome their upcoming hosts without the services of a key player due to injury which will naturally make their task much trickier this time around.

Team news: Juventus vs Sassuolo

Juventus: Alvaro Morata is still out with muscular issues, while both Alex Sandro and Juan Cuadrado continue to recover following their positive COVID-19 tests. With pretty much everyone else available, Pirlo is likely to rotate his squad here, with American international Weston McKennie set to return to the starting XI after his excellent performance from the bench against Milan, during which he scored a goal. However, Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt is set to miss this match after he also recently tested positive for COVID-19.

Sassuolo: The visitors have been hit with a major blow as key striker Domenico Berardi will be out for the next few weeks after suffering an injury midweek.
