About Australian Championship

History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage

The Australian Championship is a men's competition organised by Football Australia. Held annually at the end of the National Premier Leagues (NPL) season, it pits the competition's eight permanent members – known as "foundation clubs" – against the eight NPL premiers in a tournament consisting of a sixteen-team group stage and an eight-team knockout stage. The competition is intended to be a progenitor to a national league to occupy the second tier of the Australian men's league system, with first edition taking place in 2025.
