About Copa del Rey de Futsal
History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage
The Copa del Rey de Futsal is an annual futsal tournament organized by the Royal Spanish Football Federation and administered by the National Futsal Committee. The competition started in 2010 and is endorsed by the Spanish royal family.
The competition shares similarities with the Copa del Rey football version, considering all teams in the Primera División, the Segunda División, the Segunda División B, and the Third Division play it. The only exceptions to this apply to reserve teams, as they are not included in the tournament’s draw.
All rounds are played as one-leg ties. If a club from a lower tier is involved in a game, it is automatically handed a home-field advantage. The first rounds are played by lower-tier teams, giving Primera División teams a chance to enter the competition from the Round of 16. The semi-finals and the title match are held in a Final Four format, as all teams are summoned to play at a neutral venue.
Barcelona has dominated the Copa del Rey de Futsal in its first years, setting title-winning records in the competition's history. Barcelona won the first four editions, which took place between 2011 and 2014.
