TV5Monde is a French Television Network that broadcasts in several regions of the world. It was launched on January 2, 1984 and has expanded to Europe, North and South America, the Middle East, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific region. It is the largest French-speaking channel in the world, and its availability has been compared to CNN and MTV. The number 5 in its name is a reference to the five founding networks behind its launch: Télévision Française 1 (TF1), Antenne 2 (France 2), FR 3 (France 3), TSR (RTS Un) and RTBF (La Une).

The network expanded across the globe gradually thanks to the different channels available in numerous regions, starting with TV5Europe, a channel that serves most of Europe’s non-French-speaking countries in 1999. The current channels operated by TV5Monde include TV5MONDE France Belgique Suisse, TV5MONDE Europe, TV5MONDE Afrique, TV5MONDE Maghreb–Orient, TV5MONDE Asie, TV5MONDE États-Unis, TV5MONDE Brésil, TV5MONDE Amérique Latine & Caraïbes, TV5MONDE Pacifique, and TV5 Québec Canada.

TV5Monde Europe was the first channel of the company to be launched. It has added subtitles to most of its programming to serve the need of the country where a user is watching. Over the years, the channel has added subtitles in the following languages: German, English, Spanish, Dutch, Romanian, Russian, Polish, and French. The channel aims to serve French-speaking users in the region, but the inclusion of subtitles has increased its viewership numbers in certain countries. 

The channel’s approach in all the world is the same, offering shows from French-speaking channels such as France Televisions from France, RTBF from Belgium, RTS from Switzerland, and TVA networks from Canada. TV5Monde broadcasts news, films, music magazine shows, and sports, which have included football coverage of the French top-flight (Ligue 1) and the Coupe de France.

TV5Monde Europe has broadcast its content in Standard Definition since its launch, but a High-Definition feed was added in 2013. Both feeds may be available in most countries where the channel can be accessed.
