About
TV Cuatro History, Coverage, Features
TVCuatro is a regional television network owned and operated by the Government of the State of Guanajuato. It was launched on December 5, 1979, as an alternative to commercial television, with its programming being focused mostly on promoting the state’s cultural legacy within the state and to some regions in the United States and Canada.
Being a government-owned television channel, TVCuatro’s programming has focused on shows aimed at the local community. Such shows have included news broadcasts, kids’ shows, educational programs, and local sports events. The channel has also aired content produced by the BBC and Deutsche Welle to add depth to its programming over time, while also adding cultural content from other television stations in Mexico such as Canal Once and Canal 22. The channel is known for its detailed coverage of the Festival Internacional Cervantino, one of the biggest cultural events in Latin America.
Speaking about sports, TVCuatro has covered football games for Liga MX’s Club León, basketball competitions featuring the state’s team, Abejas de León, the W2R Rally, and multi-sports competitions such as the Winter Olympics in 2014 and the Summer Olympics in 2016.
TVCuatro added two overflow channels to increase its coverage in the state: Media 4, which has aired the content broadcast on TV Cuatro with a one-hour delay, and Expresa 4, which has also aired content initially broadcast on TVCuatro with a two-hour delay.
TVCuatro began broadcasting its content in Standard Definition, but a High Definition feed was launched on February 23, 2015.
