MBC 1 history, coverage, features
MBC 1 is an Arabic television channel owned and operated by the MBC Group. The channel was launched on September 18, 1991, simply known as MBC. It would later become the most relevant channel in the network when its sister channels saw the light in 2003.
Over the years, MBC 1 has been known as a general interest channel, with news, reality shows, cartoons, tv series, and other programming available for users to watch live. Most of the content aired on this channel has been produced in-house, although there have been some international productions that have been dubbed to Arabic to make them available to local audiences.
Speaking about sports, MBC 1 used to air high-profile competitions such as the FIFA World Cup, the Summer Olympics, and other tournaments. Nevertheless, the channel has shifted its focus to other programming, leaving sports coverage to other networks.
MBC 1 was launched as a Standard Definition channel, but a High-Definition feed saw the light on July 1, 2011. Both feeds may still be available to watch on most regions of the country, since the SD feed is available on the free-to-air network and the HD option can be watched on cable tv and satellite television providers.
