About
BBC Two History, Coverage, Features
BBC Two is an English-language channel owned by the British Broadcasting Corporation. This channel was launched on April 21, 1964 and it is considered the second most relevant channel owned by the BBC. It is funded by the television licence, which makes the channel free of commercial advertising. It became the first television channel to broadcast in color on June 1, 1967.
BBC Two is often referred to as the alternative to watch for those users who cannot find appealing content on BBC One or on ITV. Throughout its history, BBC Two has aired arts shows, comedy and drama programs, while also adding documentaries. Sometimes, BBC Two has served BBC One as a testing ground for shows that end up airing on the network’s most watched channel. Most of BBC Two’s content is also aired on the regional channels in Wales and Northern Ireland.
BBC Two is available on most pay-tv carriers in the UK on both SD and HD. The High Definition feed saw the light on October 6, 2011, while the regional feeds had their HD feed launched in 2019. BBC Two may also be available in other territories, but geo-restrictions may apply for some of their shows.
