ATV, which stands for Actual Television (or Aktüel Televizyonu), is a Turkish television channel owned and operated by the Turkuvaz Media Group. It was launched on September 9, 1993 and has been frequently named as the most popular television channel in the country. It was previously known as Satel TV.
Over the years, ATV has been labeled as a general entertainment channel, with its main focus being news broadcasts, magazine shows, game shows, religious programming, TV series, films, and more. Occasionally, the channel has also been used as an overflow channel to cover live sports events, especially those having to do with football.
Speaking about football, ATV has covered events such as the Turkish Cup, certain games for the Turkish Super Lig, and the German Bundesliga. Most of the sports coverage by this network has been handled by A Spor, the company’s dedicated sports channel.
ATV Avrupa is the European feed for this channel, aimed to serve Turkish nationals who are living in other European countries. The channel may show the same content as on ATV’s Turkish feed, although some sports events may be geo-restricted.
ATV Avrupa was launched as a Standard Definition channel, but a High-Definition feed, which broadcasts simultaneously with the SD feed, was launched on April 24, 2011. This feed is only available in certain European countries.
