Astro Arena History, Coverage, Features
Astro Arena 1 is a Malaysian television channel owned and operated by Astro and Radio Televisyen Malaysia. This channel was launched on March 26, 2010, becoming the first Malay-language sports network in this country. The channel was created after a request by a Malaysian minister, who urged the company to create a sports channel to promote the development of physical activity.
Over the years, Astro Arena 1 has been known for airing both local and international competitions for disciplines such as football, badminton, basketball, hockey, table tennis, boxing, wrestling, mixed martial arts, motorsports, and multi-sport events such as the Olympic Games.
When it comes to football, Astro Arena 1 has covered competitions such as the English Premier League, the German Bundesliga, the Dutch Eredivisie, the Primeira Liga, and Asian leagues such as the J-League and the K-League. Other club tournaments covered on this channel have included the DFL Super Cup, the FA Cup, and the AFC Champions League.
National team football has also been included in the channel’s programming with tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup, the FIFA Women’s World Cup, the UEFA Euro, the UEFA Nations League, the FIFA Arab Cup, and tournaments such as the FIFA U-17 World Cup, the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Astro Arena 1 was launched as a Standard Definition channel, but a High-Definition feed saw the light on June 5, 2015. While the HD feed became the popular option to watch the channel, both feeds may still be available in different pay-tv carriers across the country.
