Over Primera A
Primera A History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage
De Ecuadoriaanse Serie A (ook bekend als Primera A) vertegenwoordigt de topafdeling van het professionele mannenvoetbal in Ecuador. Deze competitie, opgericht in 1957, functioneert onder begeleiding van Conmebol en hanteert, net als veel andere competities wereldwijd, een systeem van promotie en degradatie. Het seizoen loopt doorgaans van februari tot december elk jaar.
Aan het eind van elk seizoen degradeert een vastgesteld aantal teams uit de Ecuadoriaanse Serie A naar de Ecuadoriaanse Serie B. Teams die deelnemen aan de Ecuadoriaanse Serie A komen ook in aanmerking voor deelname aan diverse binnenlandse competities, waaronder de Copa Ecuador en de Supercopa Ecuador, evenals internationale toernooien zoals de Copa Libertadores en de Copa Sudamericana.
Barcelona, Emelec, El Nacional en LDU Quito behoren tot de meest succesvolle teams in de geschiedenis van de Ecuadoriaanse Serie A.
Van de jaren zestig tot de jaren negentig werden de wedstrijden van de Ecuadoriaanse Serie A meestal uitgezonden door het publieke televisienetwerk Televisión Nacional de Ecuador (TNE). In de late jaren negentig, doorlopend tot het einde van de jaren 2000 en begin 2010, verworven diverse betaal-TV-aanbieders de mediarechten, waaronder Ecuavisa en Teleamazonas.
Star+, een OTT-streamingdienst van Disney, heeft zich de afgelopen jaren ontpopt als een prominente aanbieder van live-streaming van wedstrijden in de Ecuadoriaanse Serie A binnen Ecuador. Daarnaast biedt Goltv ook televisie-uitzendingen aan van deze wedstrijden.
Ondertussen, vanwege het grote aantal Spaanstaligen in de VS, hebben verschillende entiteiten in de loop van de afgelopen decennia de mediarechten op de Ecuadoriaanse Serie A in bezit gehad. In de jaren negentig had de Spaanstalige omroep Univision de mediarechten, gevolgd door een reeks aan organisaties, waaronder Bein Sports, ESPN Deportes en Goltv. Sinds 2018 heeft Goltv de televisie- en livestreamingrechten voor de Ecuadoriaanse Serie A in handen, na het sluiten van een tienjarige deal die loopt tot en met 2027.
