Lionel Messi claimed La Liga's Player of the Month award thanks mainly to his individual performances, because his team-mates have done little to help him in recent weeks.
"La Pulga" claimed the award after scoring three of his six goals in La Liga during the past month. He scored a brace against Huesca and followed up with one more goal against Girona. Furthermore, he handed out four assists, the highest tally for a player in the current La Liga season. The Argentine ace will be presented with this award during Barcelona's next game.

The award may not be as significant to Messi as expected, especially since Barcelona are not the best team in the Spanish top flight right now. Sevilla owns the top spot in La Liga, following the four-game winless streak Barcelona is undergoing right now.
Curiously enough, Sevilla and Barcelona will lock horns against each other this weekend, in a game set to take place at Camp Nou Stadium.
