In ad that was broadcasted on Brazilian TV, the world's most expensive player promised to return "a new man".

After the disappointment that was the 2018 World Cup, Neymar has come out and publicly addressed the criticism that he faced throughout the tournament. The Brazilian scored twice and guided his nation to the quarter-final, but it was his football that left many irritated.

The world's most expensive player endured a backlash from lovers of the beautiful game for his theatrics and diving. This then gave birth to the Neymar Challenge in which people mimicked the 26-year-old by exuberantly rolling on the floor. The fact that the Selecao failed to win the title despite being the favorite only made things worse.

The PSG ace has now responded, using a sponsor's ad with Gillette which was broadcasted on Brazilian TV to accept most of what has been thrown his way. Additionally, he admitted to exaggerating on the pitch but hinted at something more than merely diving.

"Boot-stud on the shins. Kick in the spine. Stomp on the foot.

"You may think I overreact, and sometimes I do. But the truth is I suffer on the pitch. You have no idea what I go through outside of it.

"When I leave without talking to the press, it's not because I only like winning, it is because I still haven't learned to disappoint you.

"When I look impolite, it is not because I am a spoiled kid. It is because I have not learned how to deal with my frustrations.

"There's still a boy inside of me. Sometimes it dazzles the world. Other times, it pisses everyone off. And my fight is to keep this boy alive. But inside of me, not inside the field.

"You may think I've fallen too much, but the reality is I did not fall. I crumbled. And that hurts more than anyone stepping on your operated ankle."

Neymar also vowed to return a stronger man. The former Barcelona man also called for support as backing him would only make Brazil a stronger side.

"I took time to accept your criticism. I took time to look at myself in the mirror and become a new man. But now I'm here, with my heart wide open.

"I fell but only those who fall can get up. You can keep throwing rocks at me or you can throw your rocks away and help me get up because when I do get up, the whole country gets up with me."

The Samba sensation, who missed out on a FIFA's The Best Men's Player nomination, will be hoping to put his summer woes behind him when he returns to PSG for the new season. He will be keen on guiding the Ligue 1 giant to a Champions League title as well as domestic success.
