He fears for the game.

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has predicted that social media will make managers of clubs powerless in the coming years. The Frenchman believes via the usage of social media, club owners have empowered fans to have greater involvement when it comes to the appointment and sacking of coaches.

After 22 years of being in charge of Arsenal, the 69-year-old brought an end his reign to an end prior to the start of the ongoing season. Having enjoyed some success at a point in his career, Wenger came under massive pressure from fans in his latter days with the Gunners consistently failing to win a league title since 2004.

Momentarily, the ex-Arsenal manager is out of work and has been linked with roles at clubs such as AC Milan, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich. However, he has expressed his fears as to the direction coaching could be heading if the current trend of social media making the decisions for clubs continue.

"I've said many times, you could imagine the next chairman who says that the social networks can make a change in the second half," he told beIN SPORTS.

"That will become more and more entrenched. It will happen. I personally would not accept it. I'm from the old school in that respect. But we're going in that direction.

"If you imagine the power of social networks. What is even worse, it's not the majority, the minority is the most extreme, it's a bit like the problem with democracy, it's a dictatorship of the minorities.

"It's not for me, there's something I call intuition, I grew up and used my own eyes. You can as well imagine that in 20 years, a robot will sit in front of you."
