French president Emmanuel Macron has extended an honorable gesture to Laurent Koscielny and Dimitri Payet to travel with his delegation to watch Sunday's final World Cup final against Croatia, according to Europe 1. The two players were initially expected to represent the 1998 World Cup winners at this year's tournament but failed to make the final 23-man squad after suffering respective injuries.
Laurent Koscielny ruptured his Achilles while on duty for Arsenal in the Europa League semi-final clash with Atletico Madrid. Similarly, Dmitri Payet pulled a hamstring while playing for Olympique Marseille against the same opponent in the final of the same competition.
In their absence, France star-studded set-up has still done an impressive job to seal a final berth for the second time in four World Cups by topping their group and defeating Argentina, Uruguay, and Belgium in the knockout phase.
