It took two penalties and two different takers for Leverkusen to beat Manuel Neuer. In the Matchday 3 encounter between Bayern München and Bayer 04 Leverkusen, the Werkself were handed an early chance to take the lead when they were awarded a penalty for a handball inside the area. Kevin Volland stepped up but was denied by a strong save from Manuel Neuer. However, because Volland took the kick before referee Tobias Welz had blown his whistle, Leverkusen got a second bite at the cherry and chose a different taker to try their luck against Neuer.
