President of Paris Saint-Germain Nasser Al-Khelaifi has stated that his club is not looking to appoint Arsene Wenger as the new sporting director. His statement comes in wake of recent speculations which suggest that the French manager is in line for the role.
Arsene Wenger currently remains unassigned after he brought a 22-year managerial stint at Arsenal to an end in 2018. While he is yet to announce his retirement, the 69-year-old manager has been linked with various managerial and board level roles at top European clubs in the last few months.
Following a recent meeting with the club president of Paris Saint-Germain, rumors emerged that 'Le Professeur' could be appointed as the sporting director of the Ligue 1 outfit, a position currently occupied by Antero Henrique. However, Nasser Al-Khelaifi has established that a move for Arsene Wenger is not on the cards anytime soon.
"I have very good relations with Arsene," he told Le Parisien as per Mirror.
"I'm close to him and I've known him for a long time. He is a wonderful manager and coach. He has a very sharp and very complete knowledge of football.
"But we have a sports director, Antero Henrique, in whom I have great confidence.
"I hear the media constantly say that Arsene will come to take this job. It's too much. Let us work, please. "Antero does a very good job. He will continue with us. He stays there."
At the recently held ceremony to launch the Sport for Good awards, Wenger expressed uncertainty about his future with reports of an imminent return to the dugout refusing to die down.
"My future is unknown, even to me," he said at the launch of the Sport for Good awards.
"I'm quite open you know, I enjoy daily life know and I have traveled a lot recently.
"I believe as well that sport today, in the world, has a huge responsibility. It's not only about stars, but it's also about values."
