The Croatian midfielder will sign a second contract extension with Los Blancos after securing a wage increase in the early days of the season.

Real Madrid may be getting ready for an overhaul, but Luka Modric will not be one of those players that will leave the club.

After months in which the 2018 FIFA World Cup runner up was linked to Inter Milan, the Croatian midfielder has reportedly agreed to extend his stay at the Bernabeu until the end of the 2020-21 season, according to Marca. If he lives up to the extension of that deal, Modric will spend nine straight years with Los Blancos.

Modric joined the Spanish giants in 2012, when Jose Mourinho was the team's coach. Since then, Modric has played a major role in Los Blancos' successes, with four UEFA Champions League titles, one La Liga triumph and a Copa del Rey win, among their many accolades.

Last year, Modric ended Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi's dominance in the Ballon D'Or race, becoming the first player to win the trophy other than the European and South American aces since Kaká in 2008.

With that in mind, Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez granted the footballer a well-deserved wage increase. The player's current deal had made him a transfer target for many teams, including Inter Milan, who apparently came close to snatch the player away before the ongoing season began.

This is expected to be Modric's final professional deal, since he will be 36 by the time his contract comes to an end.
