The Liverpool legend has thrown an ultimatum to the in-form Egyptian forward.

Ian Rush has expressed his eagerness to see Mohamed Salah break his record of scoring the most goals in a single season for Liverpool. However, the 56-year-old Welshman would prefer if the free-scoring forward does it in the final of the Champions League against either Bayern Munich or Real Madrid.

The goal-scoring record at stake was set by Rush in the 1983-1984 season with his 47 goals. At the moment, Mohamed Salah’s goal tally stands at 41 and the forward does not seem like slowing down anytime soon.

Speaking at the launch of Liverpool’s pre-season fixture against SSC Napoli at the Aviva Stadium this summer, Ian Rush commended the 25-year-old forward’s proficiency and impact for the Reds this season.

"He's been absolutely amazing and been a joy to watch. He's got better and better.

"For me, people say it's about the record and if he breaks it, good luck to him. I'd love to see him break that record in the Champions League final.

"I wouldn't mind. I'd be happy if he did that but at the end of the day, he's had an absolutely amazing season and hopefully, he can get even better.

"The Liverpool supporters love him, he loves the supporters, the club loves him and everyone loves him. And he's so humble. That's the thing about him.

"Hopefully, he keeps himself fit and hopefully there are not five but six games left to try and break that [record] now."

On Tuesday, Mohamed Salah will reunite with his former teammates when AS Roma comes to town for the first-leg of the UEFA Champions League’s semi-final tie. The newly-crowned PFA Player of The Year has already scored eight goals in 10 appearances in the competition this season and is expected to increase his tally against the Giallorossi.
