In their third World Cup appearance, Ghana have a tough task ahead with Portugal, Germany, and USA on the horizon in the group stages.

With the 2014 World Cup, which will be hosted by Brazil just around the corner, several teams were quick to name the players who have (or will) book their seats on the plane.

Germany's Joachim Low called up 30 names, whilst South Korea's Hong Myung-Bo immediately finalized his list as his team looks to get out of their quartet comprised of Belgium, Algeria, and Russia.

And ahead of their friendly clash with the Netherlands on May 31, Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah released his preliminary list of 26 players that were hoping to represent the Black Stars in their third World Cup appearance. Right after the friendly, which ended in a 1-0 defeat for the Ghanaians, the manager erased three names from his provisional list.

Depending on which leagues one follows, some of these players, including Sulley Muntari, Michael Essien, Kevin Prince Boateng, Asamoah Gyan, and Kwadwo Asamoah will certainly be familiar to football fans.

Ghana, who have been placed in the "Group of Death", have a tough task ahead of them in Brazil

In 2010, the Black Stars became only the third African team to reach the quarter-finals, where they were eventually defeated by Uruguay after Luis Suarez's handball forced the game into a penalty shootout.

Boateng brothers Jerome and Prince, who faced off in 2010, will meet again in Group G in June

This time around, though, they face an uphill battle as they have European heavyweights Germany and Portugal, as well as familiar foe United States for company in Group G.

Will team captain Asamoah Gyan and his squad have a good run in their third World Cup?

Below, the 23 who made the final cut. The three that did not make it are in bold and italics.
