The former defender for Mexico was extremely successful in reaching the World Cup, despite his predecessor’s more than shaky start.
The announced list was largely expected, featuring the usual suspects Chicharito, Andres Guardado, and ex-Barca talent, Giovani Dos Santos. Some supporters may be surprised by the inclusions of the youngsters, not called for Mexico’s playoff games against New Zealand.

Nonetheless, it was clear from the start that Mexico’s manager could never deprive himself and the Mexican squad of the young talents. Herrera’s list however, still includes the not-so-young protagonists of the win over New Zealand, like Peralta, age 30, and Rafa Marquez, age 35.
Mexico’s 23 seems to provide a solid mix of young and old players and a good balance between pace and experience.
