Benfica has already wrapped up the Portuguese League, and on Wednesday night, they will look for their fifth victory in the Taca da Liga. Watch live as Rio Ave has their sights set on their first major title.

Preview: Benfica is out to set things right after last season's meltdown

A 33rd league title has already been added to Benfica’s list of domestic titles, but they now set their sights on the Taca da Liga on Wednesday night. Looking for their fifth title in this competition, Jorge Jesus will make sure that his squad is fully focused on the task at hand.

On the opposite side will be a Rio Ave side that not many expected to be in this position. Nuno Espirito Santos’ side has not only earned themselves a spot in the final of this competition, but they will also go head-to-head with Benfica in the final of the Taca de Portugal on May 18th.

With the chance to claim three titles in the next 11 days, Benfica will want to start things off with a victory in Leiria.

“In a final, there are no favorites,” Jorge Jesus told reporters as he spoke about Benfica’s chance at a second title this season.

“The teams that make it to the final deserve to be there, and Rio Ave will be looking to defeat Benfica. For that reason, I don’t see any favorites for this match, despite everyone wanting to make us the favorites. Theoretically, we are a stronger side, but we will need to prove that on the pitch,” he added.

This competition may be the least important of the three finals Benfica is involved in, but Jorge Jesus still wants to win.

“It’s a trophy, an official competition, which is part of Portuguese Football’s calendar. That means it is a competition that is meant to be won, and we shouldn’t overlook any chance of winning a title.”

Rio Ave will feel the same way, as they will have two shots at winning a title against the Portuguese League champions. But before they can worry about the big clash at the Estadio Nacional against Benfica, they will first want to get things done on Wednesday night in Leiria.

Antonio Silva Campos, Rio Ave’s President is also not a fan of playing down his side, as he believes the Vila Condenses have a 50 percent shot.

“We know that it will be difficult, and that Benfica has a great team and that they are in great form, but we will not head into this match believing that we are going to lose,” the club’s leader told reporters.

From their last six meetings, Benfica has come out on top five times, with both sides playing to a two goal draw in 2012. In those six fixtures, Rio Ave has been outscored 21-5, with one red card for the aguias, and four red cards for the vila condenses.

The Portuguese Federation has already confirmed that the stadium will be sold out, and although a lot of clubs do not give this competition much value, tonight’s final should provide football fans with some goals, as well as some moments of brilliance.

Benfica looks to win their second title this season, while Rio Ave is aiming to shoot down the eagles, and get their hands on their first major title in their 75 year history.
