The Cityzens host the Red Devils on Sunday in what should be a thrilling showdown as Pep's men look to end the opposition's four-game winning streak.

The Premier League is back in full swing, with Matchweek 9 kicking off on Saturday with the thrilling North London Derby showdown, which Arsenal won courtesy of a 3-1 victory over Spurs. However, that clash isn't the only rivalry reigniting this weekend as Man City prepare to host Man United on Sunday in the always-exciting Manchester Derby.

While the Cityzens are the heavy favorites to win the title this season, Guardiola's men will not want to lose ground on the Gunners, who now boast a four-point lead at the top after their victory over Spurs. As a result, the defending champions must make sure to bring an end to the Red Devils' recent confidence-boosting form.

While Haaland and Co. were held to a 1-1 draw away to Aston Villa not too long ago, City enter this clash on the back of an impressive run. Their last Premier League outing was a trip to Wolves, which Pep's men won comfortably, beating the Midlands outfit 3-0 after Bruno Lage's side saw a man get sent off.

The Manchester giants are on a three-game winning run, which includes victories over Dortmund and Sevilla in the UEFA Champions League, conceding only once while netting a whopping nine times. In-form striker Haaland has played a key role in this run, scoring four out of the nine goals.

The Norwegian has been unstoppable since making his debut in the 2-0 victory over West Ham in Matchweek 1, scoring a jaw-dropping 11 goals in seven appearances while earning an additional assist. Much has been said about a possible showdown with Manchester United's marquee defensive signing Lisandro Martinez and on Sunday, this will finally become a reality.

However, unlike what several pundits seem to suggest, the Red Devils should back themselves. The 20-time English champions have bounced back from their rough start to the campaign and after winning their last four league games in a row, Ten Hag's men find themselves in sixth – fifth when they entered this round.

This is a far cry from Matchweek 2 when Bruno Fernandes and Co. lost 4-0 away to Brentford, which was their second defeat in a row, losing 2-1 at home to Brighton in the opening round. Those two results left the Old Trafford fans fearing for the worst.

However, Matchweek 3 sparked a turnaround as Manchester United registered a much-needed 2-1 win at home to bitter rivals Liverpool. After that came back-to-back triumphs of Southampton and Leicester before a tricky showdown with Arsenal.

And just as they did against Klopp's side, Ten Hag's crew put Arteta's men to the sword, beating them 3-1 thanks to a Marcus Rashford brace and a debut goal from mega-money signing Antony.

Manchester United have been in action in the Europa League but haven't played a Premier League match since then due to the passing away of Queen Elizabeth II. Will the visitors show signs of rust?

This won't be their only concern as they have a few worrying injuries to key attackers, leaving them short on numbers up front. Nonetheless, with this being a Manchester Derby, expect both sides to give it their all on the pitch.

Team news

Man City: John Stones is out for this tie after the English center-back picked up a worrisome hamstring injury during the Three Lions' 3-3 draw vs Germany. However, Aymeric Laporte is back and will be keen on getting a few minutes under his belt. Kalvin Phillips, though, is yet to return from his shoulder injury.

Man United: Despite returning to training, there remains doubt over the availability of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, who have been struggling with injuries. Meanwhile, Harry Maguire is out for this tie due to a hamstring issue he picked up during the international break. Donny van de Beek, Brandon Williams, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are all doubtful as well.
