The Three Lions' woeful displays could trigger extreme measures within the FA, which would include naming a new coach for the World Cup.

The last few months have been quite complicated for Gareth Southgate as England's boss, and even if he led the team to a second-place finish in the UEFA Euro and to a fourth spot in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, there are some who believe that his time at the helm should come to an end.

With that in mind, critics in England have started mentioning names that could take over for the former defender, with Pep Guardiola being named by some as a long-term solution. Nevertheless, there are some people who believe that a drastic solution would be to let Southgate leave before the FIFA World Cup, and they have named none other than Mauricio Pochettino as the right man for the gig.

The currently unemployed Pochettino has been heralded as quite an effective manager during his time at the Premier League, where he led Tottenham to historic campaigns. He also led PSG to a Ligue 1 title, a French Super Cup, and a Coupe de France crown in two seasons, but his failure to deliver the UEFA Champions League ended up with his sacking.

The Argentine tactician was even spotted at Wembley during the 3-3 draw between England and Germany this past Monday, prompting rumors about a potential link with the Three Lions. Pochettino was seen with his assistant and taking notes of the game, although there was no indication about the English FA having anything to do with his presence at the legendary venue.

It would be a massive surprise to see Southgate leave his spot as England's skipper, but only time will tell if the English FA is desperate enough to fire the boss that led them to some of the best results the team has enjoyed since 1966, when they won the FIFA World Cup, especially with a new edition of the quadrennial tournament right around the corner.
