The Three Lions have been relegated from League A of their UEFA Nations League group.

England boss Gareth Southgate has come under scrutiny after leading the Three Lions to yet another defeat in this season's UEFA Nations League. The Euro 2020 finalists were dealt another wrong hand, falling to a 1-0 defeat to Italy and ending the night with their worst-ever run across all competition in the past 22 years.

England were aware that a second setback in Italy would inevitably result in their demotion to Group B for the 2024–25 season. And with one game left to play at Wembley against Germany, a third loss in a hectic 2022 schedule has sealed their doom. A lacklustre game eventually came to life after the half at the San Siro thanks to Giacomo Raspadori's incredible 68th-minute goal. The Napoli attacker produced instant control and a fierce right-foot finish to beat Nick Pope, who was filling in for the injured Jordan Pickford.

The goal proved crucial in the end, utilmately deciding the fate of England. The Three Lions have now failed to record a single win in the five games they have featured in so far at the tournament. They will take on German in the next outing of Gorup A3 but a potential win will not be enough to safegaurd them from escaping the fall.

Since the inception of the Nations League, England have participated in Group A for every edition. With their relegation already confirmed, pressure is mounting on headcoach Gareth Southgate to turn their fortunes as soon as possible. The upcoming trip to Germany remains the only 90 minutes of international football left for the Euro 2020 finalists before the World Cup starts in Qatar. With the side's inability to score from open play for over 450 minutes coming to light and their failure to score a single non-penalty goal in the 2022-23 UEFA Nations League also turnning heads, Gareth Souhgate has it all to do turn things around.

Relegation from League A3 of the Nations League could also significantly affect England's seeding in the 2024 Euro qualification tournament, with the draw taking place on October 9. England may have to compete in a more difficult qualifying group for Euro 2024 in Germany if their seeding is compromised.
