Imagine the scene: your favorite team is tied 2-2 in a crucial showdown and are awarded a penalty on the brink of full-time. Your top scorer steps up to the spot to take that penalty, meaning he can win his team the three points with pretty much the last kick of the game.
This was the situation LA Galaxy found themselves in during their clash with Sporting Kansas City. The MLS side threw away an early 1-0 lead and found themselves 2-1 down up until the 88th minute. They were awarded a penalty, which Chicharito converted to complete his brace, only to be awarded another spot kick deep into stoppage time.
The Mexican star, having scored their opener as well, stepped up to the spot and had the golden opportunity to both claim his hat-trick and earn his team the three points. Unfortunately, the former Manchester United man was unable to put the ball into the back of the net.
And not only that, the 34-year-old failed to score after attempting a cheeky Panenka. Sadly for him, the keeper did not dive immediately and quietly collected Javier Hernandez's tame attempt. His error even sparked a hilarious laugh from the ESPN Deportes commentator covering that fixture. Check out the incident in the video below.

Getting denied a stoppage-time winner by trying to do a panenka penalty is one of the most embarrassing moments in football, and it just happened to Chicharito.pic.twitter.com/0gDbHAw7pr

After picking up only one point, Greg Vanney's side find themselves eighth in the table, three points behind seventh-placed Portland, meaning the Los Angeles giants missed out on the chance to seize the final Western Conference playoff spot.
However, the Galaxy have two games in hand over the Timbers and could still beat their rivals to the playoffs. Additionally, Chicharito has been key for LA Galaxy this season, scoring 14 in 26 appearances and thus shouldn't be written off. Next up for the club is a trip to fourth-placed Nashville which should be an interesting fixture.
