The Englishman was barred from consoling the affected individuals after making his way into the crowd.

New York Red Bulls midfielder Dru Yearwood received a red card during his team's 2-0 loss to Philadelphia after he unintentionally injured a couple of fans. The 22-year-old English midfielder lost his cool at a point in the night's encounter and was dealt the befitting consequence when he kicked the ball at the spectators.

Red Bulls, who were on a four-game unbeaten run prior to the meeting Philadelphia, had had a tough evening in their own backyard prior to Yearwood's mishap. Goals from Mikael Uhre and Daniel Gazdag had fired the visitors in front and there was almost no time left for the hosts to fashion a response despite making attempts.

Inside the 94th minute, their night went from bad to worse when Yearwood's reaction caused the match referee to hand him his marching orders. The former Southend United man had given away a foul on the touchline and, out of frustration, proceeded to kicking the ball into the stands. His action ended up injuring a could of fans who were looking on.

Realizing his mistake, the Englishman proceeded to go into the crowd to render a personal apology. However, he was denied the chance to do so and was turned away, eventually receiving a second booking after returning to the field of play.

Yearwood, who has registered just two goals and one assist in 25 appearances this term, issued an apology to the affected fans through the club's website. He said: "I want to apologize from the bottom of my heart to the fans who hit by the ball I kicked at Saturday's match. My emotions got the best of me on this day, and I've let down the entire organization and every single New York Red Bulls fan. I hope the fans are OK and that they can forgive me."

New York Red Bulls also reacted to the situation with a statement which reads as follows: "The safety of everyone that attends our events at Red Bull Arena is of utmost importance to our organization.

"Dru is incredibly remorseful and knows his actions were inexcusable. We will take measures to discourage this from occurring again. We, along with Dru, will continue to stay in contact with the families to check on their well-being."
