Ligue 1: Top matches to catch on matchday two

Monaco vs Rennes: Both Monaco and Rennes had strong campaigns last season, with Monaco finishing in third spot while Rennes earned fourth place, which gives them a slot in the Europa League. Les Rouges-et-Blancs come into this match having battled to a 2-1 road win over Strasbourg, while Rennes will be aiming to bounce back after a disappointing 1-0 home defeat to Lorient.

PSG vs Montpellier: PSG have really come bursting out of the gates so far this season. Now under the tutelage of Christophe Galtier, Les Parisiens first cruised to a 4-0 win over Nantes in the French Super Cup before crushing Clermont 5-0 on the road in their first Ligue 1 match. In both matches, Kylian Mbappe was out injured, but the French youngster is expected to make his return to a line-up that has seen both Neymar and Lionel Messi find the back of the net on multiple occasions. Montpellier, for their part earned three points after surviving a tough test against Troyes, during which Teji Savanier's late goal was enough to give them a 3-2 victory.

Brest vs Marseille: Marseille finished as runners-up last season, but it was hardly a close race as PSG won the title by a 15 point margin. This time around, they will again hope to try to challenge for the Ligue 1 title, and have started off brightly following a comfortable 4-1 result against Reims on matchday one. Given that Brest were on the wrong end of a 3-2 scoreline against Lens, Marseille will naturally look to make it back to back wins in order to keep pace with the early leaders on top of the table.
