Preview: English players will be fighting for a spot in Brazil

Wednesday's match against Denmark will be one of two chances for England's players to prove that they deserve a spot at the World Cup. They will take on Peru at the end of May, with Hodgson making his final 23-man selection on June 2nd.

One new face for the hosts will be Luke Shaw, who will go head-to-head with Ashley Cole for a spot in the squad, alongside Leighton Baines of Everton.

The young Southampton left-back has been impressive over the last two years and could be finally set to enter the big stage at the age of 18. With Ashley Cole's role at the club level becoming a question mark, it could be time for Luke Shaw to shine.

On the offensive end, Hodgson will have a lot of choices. Theo Walcott's season ending injury has opened up a gap for someone else to step up.

Raheem Sterling, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Andros Townsend and James Milner will all be fighting for a spot on the right wing. With the way Ox, Townsend and Sterling have been playing at the club level, the England manager could be in for a serious headache.

With the final result likely being the least of Hodgson's worries, England will certainly not want to disappoint their fans. The last time these two sides met, Wayne Rooney put the Three Lions ahead, but the Danes went on to win 2-3 at Old Trafford.

Denmark will likely be without Christian Eriksen. The Danish manager insisted that the Tottenham midfielder would not feature in the match if he was not fully fit. With a handful of promising youngsters to replace him, Morten Olsen should have no problem fielding a replacement.

Having failed to qualify for the World Cup, Denmark must now focus on building a strong squad for the upcoming qualification round for the European Championship.
