Matchday two begins with a double header starring hosts England, who will face Norway, while debutants Northern Ireland will hope to rebound against Austria.

Preview: Austria vs Northern Ireland

After a serious case of baptism by fire during which they were thrashed 4-1 by Norway, debutant side Northern Ireland will hope for much better luck when they take on Austria. Both teams lost their respective openers, with Austria narrowly being edge out 1-0 by hosts England, so naturally, each will be hoping to get some much needed points on the board, especially as England and Norway will be going head to head in the other fixture played later on Monday.

Although they were on the wrong end of that 1-0 score-line, Austria will still be fancying their chances at picking up what would be their first win in this competition. Irene Fuhrmann's side have won seven of their last nine matches across all comps and also beat Northern Ireland comfortably, 3-1, during a World Cup qualifier played earlier this year.

Meanwhile, the Green and White Army put up a valiant battle, but, as expected, were no match for Norway. Still, they will take some respite in the fact that it was not the most horrible defeat they could have suffered, and despite being on a five game losing streak across all comps, Kenny Shiels's team will still hope they can end that poor run and pick up what would be their first points at a major tournament.

Team news: Austria vs Northern Ireland

Austria: No injuries or suspensions, so Austria could field the same starting XI they used against England or opt to make some changes.

Northern Ireland: The minnows have been dealt a huge blow due to an injury to Simone Magill, meaning that Shiels will need to modify his preferred starting XI for this game.

Match facts: Austria vs Northern Ireland

  • Austria and Northern Ireland met recently for two World Cup qualifiers, with Austria's record from those meetings being D1 W1...

Preview: England vs Norway

After winning their respective fixtures, England and Norway will prepare to go head to head as both sides battle to secure not just a spot in the next round, but potentially put themselves in good position to win their group. The Three Lionesses had to work much harder than expected to grind out a 1-0 win over Austria at Old Trafford in front of a record-setting crowd, but Beth Mead's goal was enough to give them a vital win and set them up ahead of the tough challenge that will be Norway on Monday evening.

Meanwhile, Norway, to little surprise, cruised to a 4-1 win over debutants Northern Ireland. The Scandinavian side were 3-0 to the good in just about 30 minutes, and despite Northern Ireland grabbing a goal, it turned out to be a mere consolation and Martin Sjogren's team will come into this contest on top of Group A thanks to goal difference.

The win for England marks another positive result since Sarina Wiegman, who spearheaded the Netherlands' success at EURO 2017, took over. Indeed, the Three Lionesses are now on a 15 match unbeaten streak (W12 D3) and impressively, during that time, have kept 12 clean sheets and outscored their opponents by a whopping 85 to three.

Of course, that run could come under threat on Monday as Norway will present some stern opposition. However, with the full backing of the crowd, will the Three Lionesses roar once again as they look to book their spot into the quarter-finals and perhaps beyond?

Team news: England vs Norway

England: Only defender Lotte Wubben-Moy, who recently tested positive for COVID-19, is England's sole absence for this upcoming match.

Norway: No injuries or other concerns.

  • The Three Lionesses have also kept 12 clean sheets during this period, while conceding just three and scoring 85
  • They are also on a seven match winning streak and will need two more to match the nine on the trot they achieved between November 1972 to April 1975
  • This will be the fifth meeting between the two sides, each team has won two so far
