Bale set to join MLS franchise as a free agent

Report: Gareth Bale set to join MLS club, but not as Designated Player

June 25, 2022 By Oscar Rojas
The Welsh footballer will finally have a say about his future following months of speculation where Cardiff City seemed to be his next destination.

The uncertainty that surrounded Gareth Bale's future since his contract at Real Madrid expired is set to come to an end, as the Welsh superstar has reportedly agreed terms to continue playing with the FIFA World Cup in mind.

Reports from all over the world suggested that the 32-year-old was thinking about playing for Cardiff City just to keep his form ahead of the quadrennial competition, while others linked him to teams such as Getafe and Atlético Madrid. But those reports turned out to be far away from becoming true, as the Welshman has reportedly decided to join the MLS on a one-year deal.

The club that will hire Bale for the next 12 months is none other than Los Angeles FC. The black and gold side are at the top of the Supporters' Shield table, and Bale's addition will be a boost to the team's chances of success. The LAFC have already unveiled Giorgio Chiellini, who will be eligible to play on July 8. If things go smoothly between the club and Bale, he could also be making his debut on that date against the LA Galaxy.

Something that has caught the eye of those close to the negotiation is that Bale would sign with the black and gold on a regular wage and not as a Designated Player, leaving the team an option to make one more marquee move. As of now, the only DP in this team is Mexican striker Carlos Vela, who could be living his final months with the team due to a complicated negotiation between his agents and the club.

If things go as planned, Bale would be able to know some of his World Cup rivals first-hand, as Wales will be sharing their FIFA WC group with the USMNT, and are set to lock horns on November 21.

Added to that, the footballer will also want to extend his legacy as a top-caliber player after winning five UEFA CL titles, three La Liga crowns, and four FIFA Club World Cups, all of them in over 250 apps with Real Madrid.
