Done Deal: PSG agree terms with new manager

Done Deal: PSG reach total agreement with Nice for Mauricio Pochettino's replacement

June 20, 2022 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The Ligue 1 champions will have a new manager in the dugout for next season.

Paris Saint-Germain have reached a total agreement with Nice over Christophe Galtier, a report by L'Equipe has revealed. The Ligue 1 club is said to have agreed to pay a compensation of nearly $10.4M to Nice to in order to recruit the French coach as the successor of the departed Mauricio Pochettino.

About a week ago, the French champions confirmed that Pochettino was set to leave the club after both parties agreed to terminate his contract. The objective to bring the Champions League trophy to Paris failed once again, even with Lionel Messi joining the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Neymar Jr for the campaign. As a result, the 50-year-old Argentine who joined the club in 2021 has had his tenure being classified as a failure with the Coupe de France and the league title he won proving to be inadequate.

The search for Pochettino's successor is on, with the likes of Jose Mourinho, Zinedine Zidane and Ruben Amorim all being linked with moves to PSG. However, it became apparent on Saturday evening that the head coach of OGC Nice is the man that has seemingly won the race to lead the club into the new season.

According L'Equipe, the club has finally agreed to pay a compensation close to $10.4M euros to their Ligue 1 rivals to bring Galtier to Parc des Prince. Former Borusssia Dortmund head coach Lucien Favre is considered as the big favorite to take his place at Nice.

Meanwhile, PSG and Mauricio Pochettino have reportedly hit a brick wall over a $21M compensation fee. According to reports from France, the Parisians are adamant to pay the full fee agreed upon and want to slash the sum. Relatively, it is speculated that Pochettino has decided against leaving the club should they fail to give him the full value of his severance package.
