Out of the blue, the Gunners wrapped up the signing of Porto ace Fabio Vieira, which came as a huge surprise to the club's fan base.

Just as everyone began expecting Gabriel Jesus or Youri Tielemans to be Arsenal's first major summer signing, the club went ahead and surprised everyone!

Out of the blue, the north London giants completed a deal for one of Portugal's most highly-rated players. That man is none other than Fabio Vieira, the 22-year-old attacking midfielder who will be arriving in London from Porto.

This story was broken by Portuguese football expert Pedro Sepúlveda of Sic Noticias. The reporter tweeted an exclusive that caught everyone off guard: technical director Edu had agreed a deal with the Dragons that would see the Portuguese starlet arrive at the Emirates Stadium.

Soon after, other news outlet caught up and confirmed Sepúlveda's exclusive, including transfer guru Fabrizio Romano and the highly-reliable David Ornstein of the Athletic.

According to the latter, Mikel Arteta had been an admirer of the midfielder for quite a few months, with Edu negotiating a deal for the UEFA European Under-21 Championship Player of the Tournament despite rumored interest from Liverpool and Tottenham.

The midfielder had a €50M release clause but Arsenal avoided paying that. Instead, their deal could go up to €40M, with €35M being a guaranteed payment while the remaining €5M are add-ons related to performance, appearances, and UEFA Champions League qualification (as confirmed by Sepúlveda).

Vieira will undergo a medical on Friday and is set to put pen to paper on a five-year deal that will secure his services at the club until 2027.

As mentioned earlier, this deal shocked everyone. Up until now, Arsenal were thought to have only two main priorities: Gabriel Jesus and Youri Tielemans. It remains unclear what the addition of Fabio will mean for Arteta's pursuit of Leicester's Belgian ace. Additionally, with Vieira being capable of playing out wide, Jesus' versatility might no longer be required.
