Two EPL clubs ready to rival Barca for Raphinha

Huge concern for Barcelona as two Premier League sides enter the race for Leeds star Raphinha

June 14, 2022 By Ali M.
The Brazilian is wanted at the Camp Nou, but two notable teams have now entered the race for the Brazilian.

Over the past two seasons, Leeds ace Raphinha has established himself as a key attacker, both in the Premier League and on an international level with his national side Brazil.

And as a result, the 25-year-old has been garnering attention from some of Europe's biggest clubs. The most notable name is Barcelona, with the Blaugrana being keen on the Selecao ace in preparation for Ousmane Dembele's possible departure.

However, the Catalan giants' financial woes continue and as a result, a deal for Leeds' winger appears difficult. To make things even worse, two Premier League heavyweights have reportedly entered the race for the South American sensation.

According to the Athletic, they are none other than Arsenal and Tottenham, the two north London giants who went head-to-head in the English top-flight's top four race last season. Spurs, who ultimately won that battle, look to strengthen their attack by adding another wide player to their roster, as do the Gunners.

Arteta's crew relied heavily on Bukayo Saka last term and when the Englishman failed to deliver, Arsenal's form took a dip. Their rivals, on the other hand, have no other talented winger to turn to in the absence of Heung-Min Son and Dejan Kulusevski. As a result, the interest in Raphinha makes sense as he can play both on the right—his preferred position—and on the left.

Chelsea are also named as an interested party, but with Ousmane Dembele being up for grabs this summer on a free, the Blues are reportedly focused on luring the Frenchman to Stamford Bridge.

While Leeds would understandably prefer to keep their star player after narrowly avoiding relegation, the West Yorkshire club will not stand in the Brazilian's way should their valuation be met.

While the article did not name the club's asking price, the popular belief is that Jesse Marsch's side will demand in excess of £50M ($60M). Tottenham, having secured UEFA Champions League football under Antonio Conte, will have more resources to spend but it will be interesting to see whether they – or Arsenal – can match that valuation.

Another interesting aspect is Raphinha's preference. The Brazilian reportedly agreed personal terms with Barcelona but the Spanish side's large debt and financial restrictions prevent them from coughing up the required transfer fee. Whether the attacker will be open to a move to north London remains unclear.
