This week in Women's football: NWSL and more to follow

June 9, 2022 By Oscar Rojas
The top leagues in the globe may not be as active as you could expect, but the women's game is still giving fans something to talk about.

Women's football fans around the globe have enjoyed some of the most interesting weeks of the season, but that will carry on with the kind of games they will be able to witness this weekend while focusing on one of the most competitive leagues in the world: the NWSL.

The American tournament is one of the few big competitions still being played, since almost all of the European domestic titles have already been handed out. For casual users, this will be a good chance to start following the competition a bit closer, but for those who are diehard fans of this tournament, the games that are scheduled for this weekend will only re-enhance their desire to keep watching their favorite footballers.

Without further ado, let's have a look at what the beautiful game will offer in terms of women's football matches.

2022 NWSL season

The tournament returns to action with the San Diego Wave still holding on to the top spot despite dropping points in their most recent clash, which ended in a two-all draw against the Kansas City Current. The Houston Dash and the Chicago Red Stars made the most out of that draw, as they lay two points behind the league leaders at this point. Elsewhere in the league, the North Carolina Courage, who won the 2022 NWSL Challenge Cup, finally claimed their first win of the season in their clash against Racing Louisville, which ended in a three-nil win.

This week, the Wave will go back home to host the OL Reign, while the Red Stars will try to take advantage of any slip-ups by the league leaders to claim the top spot if they can beat the Orlando Pride. Last, but not least, the Houston Dash and the Portland Thorns will put an end to Sunday's activity in what could be an exciting match to watch.

Here is the full schedule for this weekend in the NWSL.
