32 points separate two teams striving to achieve highly different goals; Frankfurt will travel to Munich to play the unbeaten German Champions.

Preview: Will Pep Guardiola continue to tinker with his side?

Mario Götze has featured as a “falsche neun” in both of Bayern’s match in 2014. This has seen Mario Mandzukic relegated to the bench (or sometimes, to cheering duty from home). Mandzukic and Claudio Pizarro came on against Stuttgart in the Bavarians’ previous game to somehow rescue a point for Bayern. Stuttgart bullied Bayern physically and had many chances to add to their goal advantage but the introduction of the two gigantic marksmen saw them unfold.

Pizarro’s header saw Bayern get on the score sheet while constant probing by the Bayern forwards caused the Swabians to collapse in the last second and to concede thanks to a Thiago Alcantara wonder strike. Thiago is set to keep his place in the team with Bastian Schweinsteiger still in recovery. Along with Schweinsteiger, Holger Badstuber is out. Javier Martinez and Daniel Van Buyten are not fit enough to return yet. Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery might return to the squad. As injury worries are starting to lessen for Guardiola, his appetite to tinker might increase.

This tinkering has had both positive and negative impacts on his side but has made sure that every player is replaceable. His next challenge will be an Eintracht Frankfurt side which Bayern mightily struggled against in the first half of the campaign, getting away with a 0-1 victory thanks to none other than Mandzukic. In fact, the other meeting in the previous calendar year between the two also ended with the same score line with Bastian Schweinsteiger grabbing Bayern’s title sealing goal.

Frankfurt will be coming into this one without Stefan Celozzi, Bastian Oczipka, Sonny Kittel and Marc Stendera. One player in their ranks who is switching to Bayern in the summer has been granted a rest by Armin Veh in Sebastian Rode. One might think this is perhaps in order to avoid questions about where the player’s allegiance lies – to his current club or his future employers. Carlos Zambrano will also be rested for this one.

However, the real reason in leaving the two out is because both are a yellow card away from suspension. Veh feels that these two players will be needed more in a match they can definitely win against Eintracht Braunschweig in the following match-day rather than in a match in which the chances of them losing are high.

Can Veh’s side get some points against Bayern? Or will the winning machine continue to post three points on the board?
