Michael Essien has arrived in Italy, to complete a loan move to AC Milan. According to reports, the loan deal will last until the end of the 2015 season. So what does this signing mean for AC Milan?

For starts, Essien will offer the club some stability in the midfield, although it is likely he will not start. His experience is an added bonus, and may we not forget that he can also play as a defender if needed. Seeing how many injuries the Rossoneri have had to deal with this season, the Ghanain could see significant time on the pitch.

But given his age, what is Milan looking to achieve with this move? Seeing how poor they have been this season, it would not make sense to splash the cash in January. This transfer window sees a lot of players go for inflated prices, and knowing that Milan could use some transfers, they could set themselves up for poor negotiations.

Bringing Essien into the squad now will hopefully allow them to stop the bleeding, while Clarence Seedorf figures out what he wants to do with this underachieving squad.
