Tottenham will host Anzhi Makhachkala at the White Hart Lane in a Europa League encounter on Thursday, the 12th of December 2013.

Preview: Spurs hoping to maintain 100% record in Europa

In contrast to their league form, Tottenham have been formidable in the Europa League having won all five matches they have played so far, scoring 11 and conceding just a single goal in the process.

With everything decided in Group K except the third and fourth positions, the meeting between the two clubs will be a mere formality with Spurs poised to advance to the next round top of the pool and Anzhi to qualify to the next round as the second best team in the group regardless of the results.

Tottenham who face Liverpool over the weekend will be hoping to rotate as much as possible in order to keep star players fresh for the important tie. AVB has fielded almost different teams in league and European games and will be making use of his rotation policy once again when his team faces the Russians.

"It has been our pattern in the Europa League to make seven, eight changes or more," he said.

"It has worked well for us," AVB added.

"We have the quality in our squad and have maximum points so far. We will continue to do that."

Anzhi who finished third in the Russian Premier League last season are embarrassingly at the foot of the league table having not managed a win in the 19 matches they have played so far. Furthermore scoring goals has been a major issue for the eagles who have not scored in their last seven matches.

The Russian side have evidently suffered from a host of star players leaving the club, with the likes of Samuel Eto'o, Willian and Christopher Samba all sold due to financial troubles with £15.8 million pound signing Lacina Traore also likely to leave during the winter transfer window.

Last time the two sides met goal apiece from Jermain Defoe and Nacer Chadli sealed the tie for the visitors. Defoe has been AVB’s lethal weapon in European outings, with the Englishman having scored seven times in the tournament including two in the qualifying phase and should he play on Thursday the 31 year old will be the biggest threat to Anzhi’s defense.

After a 6-0 mauling at the hands of Manchester City, Spurs have responded well winning three of the four matches they have played with the only draw coming in the tricky fixture against Manchester United.
