Preview: Bianconeri aiming to end the week on a high
Antonio Conte is one happy coach. Unlike Rafael Benitez and Max Allegri, his squad has been getting good and consistent results on all fronts since back to back defeats in late October—to Fiorientina in the Serie A and Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.
The Old Lady jumped a big hurdle in midweek by beating Copenhagen. They eventually finished the night above losers Galatasaray. In Europe, Juventus hold their destiny in their own hands. A draw on Matchday 6 could be enough to see them join Group B winners Real Madrid into the Round of 16.
Having sorted out their fears in the Champions League, the Bianconeri can now focus on Serie A business. Last weekend, they clinched victory in Livorno thanks to second-half goals from Fernando Llorente and Carlos
Tevez. They consequently opened up a one-point gap above former leaders AS Roma. The latter were held to a goalless draw by Cagliari the next day, leaving Juventus to enter Matchday 14 as owners of the summit.
Saturday’s challenge in Turin against eleventh-placed Udinese could be more difficult, knowing that the visitors had all week to rest after their morale-boosting win against Fiorentina. It remains to be seen if Udinese can emulate La Viola by forcing Juve to their second loss in the Italian Serie A.
