Chelsea will travel to Northeast where they face London based club West Ham in a Premier League encounter on the 23rd of November.

Chelsea will resume their English Premier League campaign away to West Ham United on November 23, 2013.Preview: Chelsea looking to get their season back on track

After dropping points in consecutive Premier League games against Newcastle and West Brom, Mourinho’s men will be hoping to make a statement when they face a struggling West Ham side. Chelsea’s season so far has been riddled with inconsistency, with their 2-0 loss against Newcastle coming at the back of triumphant outings against Arsenal and Manchester City.

In their last match against West Brom, the Blues were lucky to grab a point when they earned a controversial late penalty which was converted by Eden Hazard, but Chelsea should be aware of the fact that any more slip ups will put their place in the top four in jeopardy, with all of Manchester United, Tottenham and Everton only a point behind the London side.

Jose Mourinho will be hoping for Fernando Torres to make a return to the side, the Spaniard suffered a leg injury which has kept him out of Chelsea’s last two games. In his absence, summer signing Samuel Eto'o is likely to start upfront with Demba Ba also in contention for a starting berth.

Ashley Cole on the other hand is certain to miss Chelsea’s trip to Upton Park. The veteran full back aggravated his rib injury during England’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of Germany at Wembley however the 32 year old was benched after his disappointing showing against Newcastle and would have not made it to the starting line-up anyway.

Juan Mata and David Luiz will be pushing for places in the starting line-up having failed to earn much playing time under new management. The duo have been attracting interest from a lot of clubs and it will be interesting to see whether Mourinho will be willing to give them more playing time in order to keep them at the Stamford Bridge.

West Ham on the other hand have been on a woeful run as of late. The Hammers are without a win in their last four games and their antics have pushed them down to the 16th place in the league table. Much of their disastrous form has been down to poor showing in the final third, with West Ham managing only nine goals in the 11 Premier League matches they have played so far.

Only two of West Ham players; Ravel Morrison (3) and Ricardo Vaz Te (2) have managed to score more than twice in the league, an injury to record signing Andy Carroll has done the club no favours with the former Liverpool man expected to be out for most of the season.

Last time the two sides met in Upton Park was back in December last year, when the Hammers pulled off an upset defeating Chelsea 3-1. However that was Chelsea’s only defeat against West Ham in the last 15 matches and the Blues will enter the field with the favourites tag.

Allardyce will not be able to utilise the services of defender Razvan Rat who has been ruled out with a hamstring injury. James Collins and Joey O'Brien on the other hand are doubts but could feature on Saturday.
