Stadio Giueseppe Meazza will play host to some of the world’s extraordinary footballers when Germany takes on Italy on the 15th of November, 2013.

Italy and Germany will face off in a top friendly match on November 15, 2013.Preview: German nightmares to be revived in Milan?

Germany will be without Mario Gomez going into this one. Bastian Schweinsteiger underwent ankle surgery recently and is set to be out as well. Miroslav Klose is a doubt after sustaining a shoulder injury for Lazio against Parma. Mesut Özil and Per Mertesacker are both trying to recover from illnesses to get themselves ready for this match. All permutations concerned, young Max Kruse might lead the line in this friendly for the Germans. Other alternatives would include starting Mario Götze or Thomas Müller as a falsche neun.

For Italy, Giuseppe Rossi might not be able to feature due to tonsillitis. Daniele de Rossi has a slight muscle problem which might cut short any thoughts of him featuring in this one. Giorgio Chiellini is of course injured for the Azzuri. Thiago Motta will most likely step in for De Rossi if he is unable to feature. In Chiellini’s absence, the center back partnership will most likely be formed by Leonardo Bonucci and Andrea Barzagli.

Germany and Joachim Löw do not have the fondest memories of the Italians of course. In Euro 2012, a Germany team seemingly primed for glory was battered by Italy in the “Mario Balotelli” show. Thoughts of a rerun must surely give Löw shudders. Philipp Lahm voiced his thoughts this week as the Bundesliga’s official website noted:

"We have suffered several bitter defeats against them. It's about time we make new history. We haven't been able to get the better of them in a long time, but there's no doubt we've come here to beat them this time around.”

Italy of course beat Germany in extremely cruel fashion in extra time in the 2006 World Cup semifinals in Dortmund, 0-2. Revenge, however, is a word that Bayern and Germany’s calm and diminutive captain refused to refer to. He added the following in his press conference:

"We're not here to take revenge, as we can't turn back the clock and still reach still reach the finals we missed out on. It will be a fantastic experience playing such a strong side. They're incredibly good tactically, and there's certainly a thing or two you can learn from them.

We have our own identity and style. Joachim Löw likes to attack, and we have the right players to convert his ideas on the pitch."

This match will be Löw’s 100th in charge. He will be hoping that the ending is a happy one – that for the first time in 18 years, Germany does not come unstuck against Italy.
