Denmark are playing already-qualified side Italy in a crunch World Cup qualifying match on Friday, October 11, 2013.Preview: Three points vital for the Danes as they face 2006 world champions

Morten Olsen’s side will fight tooth and nail as they hope to secure a place in the World Cup for the second consecutive time, however the Danes will have to be at their very best as they face a very strong Italy side.

Denmark are currently third in Group B trailing Bulgaria by just a single point and will be hoping to gain maximum points in their subsequent matches against Italy and Malta to finish the group in second place.

Denmark have recalled troubled Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner who had been suspended for six months following a drinking-driving incident. The 25 year old who made his first start for the Gunners in the league cup victory against West Brom in over two years will be hoping to once again regain his place in the starting eleven.

The Big Dane earned the Danish football player of the year back in 2009 owing to a string of inspirational performances for the national side. However a couple of unsuccessful loan spells, coupled with injuries greatly hindered his performances and the Bendtner will surely be looking to make up for the lost time and put up another inspiring performance for his side which can guarantee them a trip to Brazil next year.

Another Danish player to look out for will be Tottenham’s summer acquisition Christian Eriksen who despite his young age will be carrying the hopes of an entire nation on his shoulders.
The 21 year old is the creative spark of his team and is one of the players in the Danish side who can create a difference within the blink of an eye. The former Ajax man has been arguably his team’s best performer over the qualification campaign and will have to continue his fine form to ensure Denmark book a place in the World Cup next year.

Cesare Prandelli on the other hand will be looking to experiment with the squad having earned direct qualification for the illustrious tournament.

Fiorentina striker Giuseppe Rossi who has been missing from the international stage for two years now has been recalled owing to fine performances for his club. The former Manchester United man ruptured his cruciate ligament for the first time back in 2011 and has since then not featured for the national side.

His coach Cesare Prandelli has revealed that it was Rossi’s hard work and determination which has earned him a recall to the squad.

“We do not want to risk anything, but he is a guy who has experienced two difficult years and is now returning to important levels," he told reporters.

“I called to make him feel part of this group and to evaluate his physical condition before using him.”

Apart from Rossi, Roma left back Federico Balzaretti has also been recalled to the squad after impressing for Rudi Garcia’s side.
